
Since I was eight years old, I have been a member of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society. One of my earliest memories is the collection of sandstone concretions I made as a six year old.

Now, for some mineral specimens!
This was one of the most interesting specimens from the University of Arizona Alfie Norville Gem and Mineral Museum. Now that is some hexagonal calcite! !!With amethyst and seemingly ametrine overgrowths!! I wonder if there was a penecontemporaneous temperature or compositional gradient or a distinct temporal change in chemistry leading to the differences in color of the amethyst and the change in color and habit (dogtooth-like) of the calcite protrusions.

What an infamous specimen – definitely one of the coolest pieces at the Mines Mineral Museum! Of course, it is from Arizona – the “Copper State!” I would say this assemblage puts the “super” in secondary supergene enrichment zone. :^)

I wonder what the pH of the acid mine drainage pool at the base of Lavender Pit in Bisbee, Arizona happens to be…
